Cross-dresser advertised services online, Abu Dhabi court hears

ABU DHABI // A cross-dresser posted photos of himself on Instagram and offered sexual services to other men, the Criminal Court heard on Wednesday.

Police received a report that the 21-year-old Lebenase man had posed in women’s clothes on the social media app.

An undercover police officer posed as a customer and set an appointment with the man, who was then arrested in a sting operation and charged with practising and soliciting for homosexual sex.

The court heard the defendant wore “short, provocative women’s clothes, wigs and make-up on his face”. He also posted his mobile number online.

MK denied the charges in court.

Although he confessed the photos were of him, he said they were never intended for publication and his friends had posted them and his phone number.

The case was adjourned until October 26 when a verdict will be announced.

Ziina users will be able to use the app to help relief efforts in Beirut, which has been left reeling after an August blast caused an estimated $15 billion in damage and left thousands homeless. Ziina has partnered with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to raise money for the Lebanese capital, co-founder Faisal Toukan says. “As of October 1, the UNHCR has the first certified badge on Ziina and is automatically part of user's top friends' list during this campaign. New process leads to panic among jobseekers

As a UAE-based travel agent who processes tourist visas from the Philippines, Jennifer Pacia Gado is fielding a lot of calls from concerned travellers just now. And they are all asking the same question.

“My clients are mostly Filipinos, and they [all want to know] about good conduct certificates,” says the 34-year-old Filipina, who has lived in the UAE for five years.

Ms Gado contacted the Philippines Embassy to get more information on the certificate so she can share it with her clients. She says many are worried about the process and associated costs – which could be as high as Dh500 to obtain and attest a good conduct certificate from the Philippines for jobseekers already living in the UAE.

“They are worried about this because when they arrive here without the NBI [National Bureau of Investigation] clearance, it is a hassle because it takes time,” she says.

“They need to go first to the embassy to apply for the application of the NBI clearance. After that they have go to the police station [in the UAE] for the fingerprints. And then they will apply for the special power of attorney so that someone can finish the process in the Philippines. So it is a long process and more expensive if you are doing it from here.”
