DUBAI // A woman who lured her compatriot to the country with the promise of a maid's job but forced her into prostitution instead was today sentenced to two and a half years in prison.
SA, a 20-year-old from Bangladesh, advertised a maid's job with a Dh2,000 monthly salary through a relative in her home country. PA, a 30-year-old tailor, replied to the advert and arrived in Dubai on March 20 this year on a visit visa.
After her arrival she was locked up in an apartment in Hor Al Anz and forced to prostitute herself.
Two days later she was alone at the flat and escaped through the window but lost her balance and fell. She injured her leg and sought the help of people passing by.
Police were notified and the woman was referred to Rashid Hospital for treatment.
The Criminal Court found SA guilty of two charges - human trafficking and working in prostitution. She was sentenced to two years for the trafficking and six months for the prostitution charge.
She will be deported after completing her prison term.
