DUBAI // Police foiled an attempt to smuggle more than 3 kilograms of heroin through the Dubai airport, officials said today.

AM, from an unnamed Asian country, traveling from Pakistan to Sri Lanka via Dubai, was arrested after police found 3.1kg of heroin wrapped around his thighs with the help of compression bandages on October 24.

"Police got suspicious of him as he was nervous while walking with heavy steps, and was searched," police said in a news release.

The drugs were found hidden in two plastics bags wrapped around his thighs. Police said he received the drugs from a person in Pakistan identified as SHA, and was supposed to deliver them to a man from an unnamed African country in the transit section of Terminal One.

AM confessed, police said. He told officers he did not know the person who was supposed to receive the drugs, saying a person in Nepal would contact him at the delivery time.

The case has been referred to the public prosecution, according to police.
