Man 'thought drugs cocktail was a glass of tea'

Four men are accused of consuming various types of drugs.

ABU DHABI // A man accused of consuming a cocktail of drugs with three friends thought he was drinking a glass of tea, a court heard today.

His three friends admitted consuming various types of drugs when asked by the Chief Justice Sayed Abdul Baseer, the head of the Abu Dhabi Criminal Court.

One of the three, KD, confessed to taking a list of drugs and psychotropic pills that the judge read out from the charge sheet. "Bravo on you," said the chief justice. KD's confession was followed by guilty pleas by two of the men.

However, the fourth man said he thought he was drinking a glass of tea after the four met at KD's house. "Only after we were arrested did he tell me it contained his medicine," he told the court.

KD agreed that this was a fair statement.

However, the judge asked the fourth friend why the police found drug pills in his possession.

KD then interrupted the judge and said the pills were his.

The case was adjourned to an unspecified date.
