To function, a democracy needs both a government and a loyal opposition, writes Hussein Ibish.

      OpinionNovember 08, 2014
Any notion that strained US-Israeli ties are a benefit to Palestinians imposes an illusory zero-sum model. Pablo Martinez Monsivais / AP Photo
Palestinians must tread carefully as US-Israel ties falter

The impulse of many Palestinians is to see the acrimony between Israelis and Americans as a significant net. But they shouldn’t jump to conclusions, writes Hussein Ibish

Israel’s baffling policies only encourage a third intifada

Abbas claims the initiative and forces the US to step up

There is a great deal in common between Mao’s revolutionary strategies and Abu Bakr Naji’s concept of “the management of savagery”. Mark Ralston / AFP
Implausible as it sounds, ISIL has plundered Mao’s playbook

In some crucial ways ISIL's strategic modus operandi looks strikingly similar to that of the Communist Party of China led by Mao Zedong in the late 1930s, writes Hussein Ibish
