YouTube star Jake Paul claims $50 million offer to Conor McGregor for fight

Social media celebrity had knocked out former NBA player Nate Robinson in the latter's boxing debut

YouTube star Jake Paul has called out Conor McGregor for a potential $50m boxing match, raising the prospects for another unconventional contest.

Paul holds a 2-0 professional boxing record having claimed a first round stoppage win on debut over fellow YouTube star Ali Eson Gib in January, before knocking out former NBA player Nate Robinson in the second round of Robinson’s pro boxing debut last month.

Now, Paul has set his sights higher and is demanding a showdown with MMA superstar McGregor, who has fought one boxing bout which he lost to American great Floyd Mayweather Jr in 2017.

In an expletive laden rant on his social media channels, Paul claimed he has sent a $50m offer to fight McGregor in a boxing match.

"You are scared to fight me, Conor," Paul said on Monday night.

"You’re 0-1 as a boxer. I’m 2-0 as a boxer. I just came off the eighth biggest pay-per-view event in history, but you want to fight Dustin ‘Prober’ who has less followers on Instagram than my ... dog – that’s a fact."

Recently, UFC president Dana White recently told TMZ that Paul had "zero chance" of fighting McGregor.

The Paul brothers are in the midst of a boxing phase. Jake's older brother Logan has landed a massive exhibition boxing match against Mayweather.

No details were released about the exhibition bout, other than it would be held on February 20. Mayweather, 43, has not had a serious fight since defeating Andre Berto in 2015, the same year he beat Filipino champion Manny Pacquiao.

In 2017, Mayweather stopped mixed martial arts fighter McGregor, who had never boxed professionally before. The one-sided fight allowed Mayweather an easy way to close his overall boxing record at 50-0.

A year later, Mayweather staged another widely ridiculed exhibition against kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa on New Year's Eve that reportedly netted him $9m.

The 25-year-old Logan Paul's lone official boxing match was against his YouTube rival, KSI, back in November 2019, which he lost having drawn against the Briton in a white collar amateur bout a year earlier.

Three tips from La Perle's performers

1 The kind of water athletes drink is important. Gwilym Hooson, a 28-year-old British performer who is currently recovering from knee surgery, found that out when the company was still in Studio City, training for 12 hours a day. “The physio team was like: ‘Why is everyone getting cramps?’ And then they realised we had to add salt and sugar to the water,” he says.

2 A little chocolate is a good thing. “It’s emergency energy,” says Craig Paul Smith, La Perle’s head coach and former Cirque du Soleil performer, gesturing to an almost-empty open box of mini chocolate bars on his desk backstage.

3 Take chances, says Young, who has worked all over the world, including most recently at Dragone’s show in China. “Every time we go out of our comfort zone, we learn a lot about ourselves,” she says.
