Today's winner: Yuga Kawada on Ushba Tesoro

Japan's Yuga Kawada celebrated his victory in the $12 million Dubai World Cup.


He was riding the horse Ushba Tesoro.

Ushba Tesoro claims thrilling Dubai World Cup victory

Jockey Yuga Kawada produced an electric finish on Ushba Tesoro to give Japan their second Dubai World Cup, the highlight of the nine-race card at Meydan.


It looked like James Doyle and Algiers were heading for victory but Ushba Tesoro came from the middle of the pack to win comfortably.


Algiers finished a worthy second and Emblem Road, the Saudi Cup winner last year, finished best of the chasing pack to take third.

Equinox claims the $6m Dubai Sheema Classic

Equinox, ridden by Christophe Lemaire, emerged an impressive winner of the $6million Dubai Sheema Classic.


The Frenchman, riding his second winner on the night, hardly moved a muscle as the Tetsuya Kimura-trained colt pulled clear of Ryan Moore and Westover to complete a double for Japan.

Frankie Dettori finally came to the party on Lord North when the Italian legend steered the seven-year-old Dubawi gelding home in the $5million Group 1 Dubai Turf.
He made late headway to get the better of Japanese raider Danon Beluga and Godolphin’s Nations Pride in the 1,800-metre turf race.

The Mind Your Biscuits colt made every yard of the running to win comfortably from Cristian Demuro on Dura Erede and Continuar ridden by Ryusei Sakai.

Dane O’Neill in the Shadwell silks on board Danyah landed the $1.5million Al Quoz Sprint for Emirati trainer Musabah Al Muhairi. Troy Corstens' The Astrologist, ridden by Damian Lane, and Godolphin’s Al Suhail with William Buick were second and third.

$1million Group 2 Godolphin Mile​

The runners for the second race, and first of eight for the thoroughbreds, are heading to the starting gates for the $1million Group 2 Godolphin Mile. Godolphin have won the prize eight times and run Egot, trained in France by Andre Fabre and ridden by Mickael Barzalona. The Japanese raider Bathrat Leon is bidding to win the race for the second successive year.

Success for Emirati trainer Al Jahoori

The Dubai Kahayla Classic victory was Emirati trainer Majed Al Jahoori’s second in the Arabian showpiece at the Dubai World Cup meeting.
He won the prize with Rabbah De Carrere, with Olivier Peslier in the saddle, for Yas Racing in 2014.

Hayyan clinched victory after a photo finish to beat Ray Dawson on Barakka and claim the $1 million Dubai Kahayla Classic.
