  10) Arsenal 2002/03 away: A cracking two-tone blue effort with red trim from Nike for a season when Patrick Veira took over the captaincy from the retired Tony Adams and Thierry Henry broke the 30-goal barrier for a second season in a row. Getty

  9) Manchester City 1989-91 home: An absolute stunner from the early 90s - and a fitting start to the Premier League years. Niall Quinn, Keith Curle and Co might lack the glamour of City’s superstar names of later years, but they certainly looked the part in this Umbro kit, with its distinctive triangular pattern.   8) Liverpool 1989-1991 home: A retro classic that still does the business 30 years after it was first adorned by John Barnes, Peter Beardsley, Ian Rush and Co. Simple Adidas three stripe down the arms with fading abstract white print dotted around the shirt. Shutterstock

  7) Burnley 2018/19 away: A magnificent Puma effort. The silver trim, sponsors logo and honeycomb effect on the shirt looks fantastic in a season where the club enjoyed European competition for the first time in 51 years - albeit only reaching the Europa League play-off stage. Getty

  6) Bournemouth 2014/15 away: Having adopted the stripes of Italian football aristocracy AC and Inter Milan in previous seasons, Bournemouth shifted to Spain’s mighty Real Madrid here. Head-to-toe in white with a nice bit of gold trim from Carbrini that would not have looked out of place donned by David Beckham, Zinedine Zidane and the rest of Real’s Galacticos. Getty

  5) Tottenham Hotspur 2005/06 away: This is sunshine and blue skies on holiday captured in a football strip. Spurs secured a top-five finish under Martin Jol but were denied a Champions League spot after the food poisoning debacle at West Ham on the final day of the season. Dodgy lasagne aside, this is a beautiful rich, dark blue with bright yellow trim and a stunning strip from Kappa. AFP

  4) Norwich City 1989-92 home: The Asics home kit from the same season gets the nod over the white away, with the green stripes going across the top of classic Norwich yellow. This is Robert Fleck, Dale Gordon and Co in their pomp and a lovely strip. Getty

  3) Leicester City 2015/16 away: A stunning effort from their still barely believable Premier League title-winning season. A subtle tonal diamond pattern to the black top, with white trim, V-neck collar and gold Puma sign all work together to make this an ensemble befitting of champions. Getty

  2) Newcastle United 1995-97 home: Narrowly beats the away kit from the same time. A much-loved effort from Adidas for a team still revered on Tyneside. The granddad collar, local sponsor on shirt and Alan Shearer wearing it at the peak of his powers after joining his boyhood club in a world-record deal from Blackburn Rovers. Will always be associated with Newcastle’s famous 5-0 destruction of Manchester United at St James’ Park. Getty

  1) Manchester United 1992-1994 home: One of the all-time great football kits. Everything about this Umbro effort screams class; from the lace-up collar to the black and red socks. The days of tiny shorts were also rightly coming to a close as United adopted an old-school longer length with a distinctive red pattern on one side. A game-changing fashion item. Allsport

After a roller-coaster ride through the peaks and troughs of English footballing fashion, we have now reached the big finale.

There have been some retina-scorching horror shows along the way ... and some easy-on-the-eye works of wonder that have warmed the heart.
