Syria's President Bashar Al Assad and his family have arrived in Russia, where they have been granted asylum, Russian news agencies reported.
Interfax said Mr Al Assad and his family were given asylum on humanitarian grounds.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the US would support international efforts to hold the fallen Assad government and its backers to account for atrocities against the Syrian people.
Efforts should focus on perpetrators of chemical weapons attacks “and the unjust detention of civilians such as Austin Tice,” he said, in reference to the American journalist and former US Marine who vanished in Syria 12 years ago.
The US military on Sunday launched dozens of strikes against ISIS in Syria as the Pentagon tries to stop the extremist group from expanding its influence in a post-Assad Syria.
It used B-52 bombers as well as F-15s and other jets to strike ISIS camps and operatives in central Syria, hitting more than 75 locations.
