President Sheikh Mohamed has congratulated Lebanon’s new President Joseph Aoun as the UAE said it would reopen its embassy, three years after its closure.
In a telephone call, Sheikh Mohamed wished Mr Aoun, elected by parliament on Thursday, success in leading Lebanon and fulfilling the aspirations of its people for development and stability.
During the call, the leaders agreed to take steps to reopen the UAE’s embassy in Beirut.
Sheikh Mohamed expressed his hope to work together for the benefit and prosperity of both nations and their peoples.
Sheikh Mohamed stressed the UAE's commitment to supporting efforts that ensure Lebanon's security and stability.
President Aoun expressed his appreciation to Sheikh Mohamed for his congratulations and warm sentiments towards Lebanon and its people, UAE state news agency Wam reported.
Lebanese MPs elected Mr Aoun as head of state after more than two years of deadlock and against the backdrop of war between Israel and Hezbollah, which has destroyed large parts of the country.
