The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will keep the identity of their baby son’s godparents private, it has been revealed.
Archie Harrison, who was born in May, is due to be christened on Saturday at Windsor Castle, where his parents Prince Harry and Meghan were married in 2018.
It was already known that the ceremony itself would be a private affair, with just 25 guests reported to be attending the gathering at the Queen’s private chapel (not St George’s Chapel) in the castle.
However, as speculation grew over the identity of the godparents, Buckingham Palace released a statement saying this part of the ceremony would also remain under wraps.
“Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor will be christened in a small private ceremony by the Archbishop of Canterbury in the Private Chapel at Windsor Castle on Saturday 6th July,” the palace said in a statement on Wednesday.
“The godparents, in keeping with their wishes, will remain private.”
Among those rumoured to be Archie’s godmothers are Meghan’s friends Canadian fashion stylist Jessica Mulroney and tennis star Serena Williams, who is already in London for Wimbledon.
Amal and George Clooney have also been tipped as godparents, while Harry’s friends Charlie van Straubenzee and Mark Dyer have been named as potential godfathers.
Archie’s great grandparents Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip are thought not to be attending the christening because of a prior engagement.
Harry’s brother and his wife, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, are believed to be attending but will not have roles in the ceremony.

The Muslim Council of Elders has strongly condemned the criminal attacks on religious sites in Britain.
It firmly rejected “acts of terrorism, which constitute a flagrant violation of the sanctity of houses of worship”.
