Ford led the way for the a successful charting of US brands in the influential JD Power study. The study examines the difficulties faced by new car owners in the first 90 days of ownership. For the first time in 24 years, American car manufacturers scored higher than other brands. Ford took fifth place overall, the highest place it has ever achieved. It was beaten by Porsche, Acura, Mercedes-Benz and Lexus, in that order. David Sargent, of J D Power, said: "This year may mark a key turning point for US brands as they continue to fight the battle against lingering negative perceptions of their quality."
