The vegetarian cafe in Mankhool has launched a limited-edition tricolour Independence Day cake, featuring fresh fruit and vanilla cream in between layers of sponge. The cakes are eggless, and you pay by the size, with one-kilogram (for Dh100) or 500-gram (Dh75) options available. It is recommended that you pre-order 24 to 48 hours in advance. The tricolour treat is available until Sunday, August 16 and orders can be placed by calling 04 399 2230.

Desi Junction

If you can't get enough of the biryani, one of India's most popular dishes, then head over to Desi Junction, an Indian restaurant that opened earlier this year in Al Karama.

The venue is paying tribute to the country's diversity with a biryani menu, with six non-vegetarian and vegetarian options. Diners can choose between options such as lagan ki murgh biryani (basmati rice cooked with marinated chicken on a dum, flavoured with saffron) and matka mutton dum biryani (basmati rice and marinated mutton cooked in a clay pot).

The international outpost of the famous Mumbai restaurant, located in Taj Jumeirah Lakes Towers, is serving a three-course menu this Independence Day, with vegetarian and non-vegetarian options available. Some of the dishes on the menu include mulligatawny chicken soup, paneer and chowki mutter tikka, tandoori lamb chops and zaffrani salmon, all served with freshly baked Indian breads. For dessert, guests can savour a trio of Shamiana's signature desserts including gajar ka halwa and ras malai.
