DUBAI // Students from the Canadian University of Dubai have been short-listed in a national competition for a mobile shopping smartphone application.
They are one of five teams entering the UAE m-Government Service Awards finals, which will be held at a summit next week.
Mohammed Baziyad, Ahmed Farrag and Moad Kawan, who study engineering, were short-listed for their app, SmartCart.
The app allows people to to scan items in a supermarket, receive their bill on their device, and pay for their purchases on the device using a pre-registered credit card, Mr Farrag said.
TV presenter Saoud Al Kaabi interviewed the team about the app in a video that will be used for the final evaluation.
The winners will be announced at the UAE Government Summit on February 11, the Canadian University of Dubai said.
The awards are an annual competition launched under the directive of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai.
