Saadiyat Island is set for a fresh burst of construction activity as enabling works get under way on a district that will be home to 29,000 people.
Abu Dhabi’s Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC) awarded Mussafah-based Western Bainoona Group for General Contracting the enabling works package on the first phase of its new Saadiyat Lagoons project.
The contract, which will last for six months, will cover site clearance and ground improvements on part of the 6 million square metre plot of land in the centre of the island.
TDIC, which is owned by the Abu Dhabi government, did not disclose the value of the contract.
The developer held a marketing launch for off plan homes at Saadiyat Lagoons in April at Cityscape Abu Dhabi.
It said the first phase of the Saadiyat Lagoons District includes 820 townhouses set in a gated community.
Eventually the district is expected to become home to 29,000 residents across more than 4,300 homes.
“Works are on track in preparation for the main construction of the project,” said TDIC chief executive Sufian Hasan Al Marzooqi.
