Checking on any UAE blacklist is strictly a personal matter

My husband was recently sent back to Pakistan because of the non-payment of fines which he has now cleared. We now want to know if he has been banned or blacklisted, so can you tell us if I give you all his details? SC, Pakistan

As advised in several previous columns, this newspaper cannot assist with checking on individual cases, nor can I do so on a personal basis. SC’s husband has to do this himself and information is generally not given to a third party (apart from an employer applying for a visa) because of data protection rules. A person is usually “blacklisted” because of a criminal offence, absconding or a medical reason and this can be for a specific or an unlimited period, depending on the circumstances. He should contact the Department of Immigration, in this case the Dubai Nationality & Residency Directorate (DNRD), with his passport details to hand to inquire what is registered on their system. The main telephone number is +971 4 398 0000 for Dubai.
