Dubai live music stalwart The Music Room is gearing up for the new season with a diverse range of cosmopolitan talent booked in coming weeks.
Things roll back into life on Sunday July 17 with the Summer Rock Festival, headlined by the UAE-debut of Nepali band Tumbleweed Inc. Also on the bill are Phoenix, Up the Ante and Filipino rockers Bulletcells.
There’s more rock on Friday July 24 with Fresh Cream, a tribute celebrating legendary 1960s blues-experimentalists Cream — led by none other than original bassist Jack Bruce’s son Malcolm. On guitar meanwhile is Will Johns, an established musician who was given an early six string start by his uncle, a certain Eric Clapton. John’s is also the son of legendary Rolling Stones producer Andy Johns (brother of Glynn and uncle to Ethan).
There’s a change of mood when Jamaican reggae singer Fantan Mojah performs on July 31 — expect an evening of uplifting grooves.
August 6 will see Outlawz land in town. A group founded by the late, great, Tupac Shakur in 1995, the current trio will celebrate 20 years of the band this year — a piece of hip-hop history.
A day later, on August 7, Australian singer, saxophonist and all-round legend Joe Camilleri will lead backing band The Black Sorrows through his lengthy, rootsy back catalogue of blues, R& B, soul and more.
With outdoor venues still out of play in July and August, this is the time for indoor gigs — and with this diverse line-up the ever-surprising Music Room has come up trumps once again.
