Pop stars Chris Brown and The Veronicas are some of the first acts announced as part of RedfestDXB.
The American RnB singer and the Australian pop duo will take the stage on the first of the two day festival, held at the Dubai Media City Ampitheatre on February 2-3.
Both artists will be joined by up and coming singer Daya. The 17-year-old American landed a hit last year with her single Hide Away and is set to release her debut album Sit Still, Look Pretty next month.
The announcement also marks the return of Brown to the UAE concert stage. Ever since his energetic show at Meydan Racecource in 2012, the 27 year-old has limited his appearances to club gigs with his latest being at White Dubai in April.
The Veronicas RedfestDXB appearance marks their debut performance in the region. The twins, made up of 31-year-olds Lisa and Jessica Origliasso, arrive in the UAE with a string of international hits including Hook Me Up and You Ruin Me. With a new fourth album due next year, RedfestDXB audiences could be some of the first to hear some of the new tunes live.
Since launching in 2014, RedFestDXB remains the region only out and out pop music festival and has featured big names such as Fifth Harmony, Jessie J, Tinie Tempah and Mark Ronson.

A cheaper choice
Vanuatu: $130,000

Abdul Jabar Qahraman was meeting supporters in his campaign office in the southern Afghan province of Helmand when a bomb hidden under a sofa exploded on Wednesday.
The blast in the provincial capital Lashkar Gah killed the Afghan election candidate and at least another three people, Interior Minister Wais Ahmad Barmak told reporters. Another three were wounded, while three suspects were detained, he said.
The Taliban – which controls much of Helmand and has vowed to disrupt the October 20 parliamentary elections – claimed responsibility for the attack.
Mr Qahraman was at least the 10th candidate killed so far during the campaign season, and the second from Lashkar Gah this month. Another candidate, Saleh Mohammad Asikzai, was among eight people killed in a suicide attack last week. Most of the slain candidates were murdered in targeted assassinations, including Avtar Singh Khalsa, the first Afghan Sikh to run for the lower house of the parliament.
The same week the Taliban warned candidates to withdraw from the elections. On Wednesday the group issued fresh warnings, calling on educational workers to stop schools from being used as polling centres.

Normcore explained
Something of a fashion anomaly, normcore is essentially a celebration of the unremarkable. The term was first popularised by an article in New York magazine in 2014 and has been dubbed “ugly”, “bland’ and "anti-style" by fashion writers. It’s hallmarks are comfort, a lack of pretentiousness and neutrality – it is a trend for those who would rather not stand out from the crowd. For the most part, the style is unisex, favouring loose silhouettes, thrift-shop threads, baseball caps and boyish trainers. It is important to note that normcore is not synonymous with cheapness or low quality; there are high-fashion brands, including Parisian label Vetements, that specialise in this style. Embraced by fashion-forward street-style stars around the globe, it’s uptake in the UAE has been relatively slow.

- September 21 Anyone interested in becoming a certified yoga instructor can sign up for a 250-hour course in Yoga Teacher Training with Jacquelene Sadek. It begins on September 21 and will take place over the course of six weekends.
- October 18 to 21 International yoga instructor, Yogi Nora, will be visiting Bodytree and offering classes.
- October 26 to November 4 International pilates instructor Courtney Miller will be on hand at the studio, offering classes.
- November 9 Bodytree is hosting a party to celebrate turning 10, and everyone is invited. Expect a day full of free classes on the grounds of the studio.
