Scouting for Girls are set to take over Dubai Opera on October 20 with a hit laden performance. The UK pop rockers return to the UAE on the back of their new release 10 Add 10, which sees the trio pair their old songs with the new. Frontman Roy Stride says the new project is as much about looking forward as celebrating a career milestone.

So you are back with a new album, is the excitement still there?

The excitement is definitely there. In a way I think I am more excited now because we are still here working hard and trying something different. With people still going out to see Scouting for Girls when we have been doing this for ten years means that we must be doing something right.

Did revisiting some of the old tunes helped inspire the new set of songs?

Well not long ago we celebrated the 10th anniversary of our first (self-titled) album and played some special shows behind it. When I was listening to that album I wanted to find out what it was about those songs that made fans say it was their favourite album. So I was kind of inspired by it and took some of the templates from those old songs, like She’s So Lovely and Heart Beat, and made some new songs that are up-tempo and happy.

The new album has its share of interesting arrangements. Isn’t that a new direction for the band?

Yes, there is also us trying to go to some new sonic places. There are songs there are more electronic, some are ballady while others are very stripped back.

Scouting for Girls play at Dubai Opera, October 20. Show starts at 9pm. Tickets begin from Dh150 from www.dubaiopera.com
