UNESCO officials say that much of the 2000-year old temple in the Syrian city of Palmyra has been destroyed. The Roman-era temple was one of best preserved sites within the historic Palymra complex.
ISIL captured this ancient city in May and has since destroyed several historic buildings that represented this strife-torn country’s diverse heritage.
