UAE Foreign Minister meets US Secretary of State

The UAE's Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed has met his US counterpart Mike Pompeo in Washington, where the pair discussed Gulf security and regional developments.

Sheikh Abdullah met the US Secretary of State for an hour on Friday and the pair addressed a range of regional and international issues.

Mr Pompeo also offered his condolences for the passing of Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed.

State Department Spokesperson Morgan Ortagus said Sheikh Abdullah and Mr Pompeo stressed the importance of Gulf Cooperation Council unity as the US tries to intensify its diplomatic efforts to find a solution for the ongoing Qatar crisis. Saudi Arabia will be hosting a GCC summit in December.

Sheikh Abdullah also met the National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien during his visit and hosted an interfaith gathering at the Abrahamic Family House on Capitol Hill.
