epa08261628 (COMPOSITE) A handout composite picture made available by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) of maps showing the concentrations of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) over China between 01 January 2020 (L) and 25 February 2020 (R) (issued 01 March 2020). NASA and European Space Agency (ESA) pollution monitoring satellites have detected significant decreases in nitrogen dioxide -- a noxious gas emitted by motor vehicles, power plants, and industrial facilities -- over China. According to scientists, there is evidence that the change is at least partly related to the novel coronavirus quarantine, Chinese New Year, and to an overall economic slowdown. The maps above show NO2 values across China from 01 to 20 January 2020 (before the novel coronavirus quarantine) and from 10 to 25 February 2020 (during the quarantine).
