Two kilograms of the illegal drug crystal meth were seized by inspectors from the General Administration of Customs at Al Ghuwaifat border on Monday.

After receiving a tip-off from the drug enforcement section in Al Dhafra about a suspicious vehicle, customs officers noticed that the vehicle was followed by another dubious vehicle being driven by an Asian man, so they suspected they were together.

Both vehicles were subjected to inspection procedures, leading customs to find two kilograms of crystal meth.

Acting director general of the General Administration of Customs, Abu Dhabi, Mohammed Khadem Al Hameli, praised the inspector’s efforts in protecting the country from the effects of illegal drugs entering into circulation.

“The administration continues to coordinate and cooperate with related government entities to facilitate the movement of legal trade and travellers across borders and prevent smuggling attempts that threaten the safety of the UAE and its residents” said Mr Al Hameli.

“The administration’s employees are the country’s first line of defence in maintaining safety across its land, sea and airports.”
