Two people have been killed and five others injured after a minivan smashed into a road barrier in Dubai. The vehicle crashed into the barrier before hitting a lamp post after one of its tyres burst on Rashid Street, just before Al Garhoud tunnel, on Monday morning. Police and paramedics were dispatched to the scene at 9.42am. A man and a woman lost their lives in the crash, with another four women and one man taken to Rashid Hospital for treatment to injuries ranging from minor to moderate. The vehicle was carrying eight people, one driver and seven passengers. Brigadier General Ali Ghanem, director of Al Muraqqabat police station, called on motorists to carry out regular checks on the condition of their vehicles, including tyres, on a regular basis.
