Leading intellectuals to lecture in Abu Dhabi

A series of lectures by the region's leading intellectuals has been announced by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage.

October 27 The Syrian Arab thinker Tayeb Tizini will explore issues such as identity in contemporary Arab thought.

November 10 In The Arabic Language and Intra-studies, Saad Maslouh will discuss the present and future of the language.

November 24 Sulaiman Hatlan will discuss whether Arab media reflects "the negative and positive aspects of Arab reality", or whether it is "just a copy of the dominant Western media".

December 8 The Tunisian thinker Abu Ya'rub Marzouki will explain how Sufism can contribute to world peace in Sufism And The Modern Man's Crisis.

December 29 Khaldoun al Naqib, from Kuwait, will deliver Arabs: Between the Culture of Globalization and the Globalization of Culture.

The lectures are open to the public and will be held at the Abu Dhabi National Theatre at 7.30pm.

Lt Gen Erik Petersen, deputy chief of programs, US Army, has argued it took a+“three decade holiday” on modernising tanks. 

“There clearly remains a significant armoured heavy ground manoeuvre threat in this world and maintaining a world class armoured force is absolutely vital,” the general said in London last week.

“We are developing next generation capabilities to compete with and deter adversaries to prevent opportunism or miscalculation, and, if necessary, defeat any foe decisively.”
