The UAE, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait agreed to a US$2.5 billion (Dh9.18bn) aid package for Jordan at a meeting in Makkah.

The agreement will see a direct payment to the Jordanian central bank, as well as the three nations acting as guarantors to the World Bank on Jordan's behalf.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, led the UAE delegation to the meeting.

The UAE delegation included Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation; Dr Anwar Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs; Sheikh Shakhbout bin Nahyan, UAE Ambassador to Saudi Arabia; and a number of ministers.

On Sunday, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid said he was honoured to visit Makkah and pleased to meet with King Salman and his "brothers" King Abdullah of Jorfan and the emir of Kuwait.
