SHARJAH // The National Paints factory in Industrial Area 4 was briefly ablaze once more yesterday as a fire that started on Tuesday rekindled. The new fire started at around 7pm in the building, despite the continued efforts by civil defence to cool the structure. Col Waheed al Serkal, the director of Sharjah Civil Defence, said firefighters had managed to control the flames less than an hour after the fire had resumed.
An employee of the nearby UAE Exchange branch in the neighbourhood said workers were astonished to be told to vacate their premises again. She said her supervisor "told all of us on counters to stop whatever we are doing and vacate the building because the fire had resumed". Residents were asked to leave and neighbouring workshops were asked to close. The National Paints roundabout on Emirates Road was closed for about 30 minutes.
