Briton sentenced to four years for consuming hashish in Dubai

The 29-year-old confessed to having 6.4 grams of the drug for his personal use and he will be deported after serving his sentence.

DUBAI // A Briton charged with consuming hashish was found guilty by Dubai Criminal Court on Tuesday and sentenced to four years in jail.

AD, 29, confessed that he possessed 6.4 grams of the drug to use personally and he also admitted to a charge of consuming hashish.

Prosecutors said that on February 26, police received a tip-off about the Briton and so secured an search and arrest warrant.

He was apprehended at his workplace and the drug was found at his home.

In his statement, AD said that a couple of weeks before his arrest, he met a fellow Briton named Sam, who later offered him the hashish.

Record show that the defendant took Sam to Abu Dhabi, stopping near a university where he got out and went in to another parked car.

“Sam came back five minutes later and handed me a bag of hashish and I paid him Dh500,” said AD.

The court also ruled today that the Briton will be deported after serving his sentence.
