Russian authorities said the main airport in the Dagestan region is “provisionally closed” until November 6 after it was stormed by hundreds of people following reports that a flight from Israel had arrived.

The Israeli military attacked targets in Lebanon and Syria, it said in separate tweets.

The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken discussed the importance of preventing the Israel-Gaza war from spreading. Mr Blinken emphasised the need to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, during calls with UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan yesterday.

Research published this month showed major ice melt in West Antarctica is inevitable, putting some coastal cities in danger of being abandoned.
