According to media reports on 01 April 2019, government officials in East Nusa Tenggara province have decided to close tourism activities on Komodo Island for one year, starting from January 2020. The temporary shutdown of Komodo Island -- a major tourist attraction inhabited by the endangered komodo dragon -- will allow a better preservation of the island's nature and environment. The measure is in response to reports of increasing smuggling of komodo dragons and their sale overseas. EPA/MADE NAGI *** Local Caption *** 02476616
