It has been a momentous year in the world of motoring, with 2018 proving something of a watershed for mainstream car manufacturers embracing the electric-vehicle revolution, not least in the SUV sector.

But the UAE remains one of the planet's top markets for automotive exotica – and that is reflected by the fact that we have driven our fair share of supercars and hypercars in the past 12 months.

We haven't forgotten some of the more mundane motors, either – one of the top picks is a hot hatch very much in reach of the average car buyer's budget.
