Road funds to help Uganda

KAMPALA // A spending spree by the Ugandan government in the 2009-2010 budget includes maintaining significant funding for the nation's road system. The budget has again allowed for 1.1 trillion shillings (Dh19.2 billion) on roads. It is hoped that improvements to Uganda's roads will in turn boost other industries, such as agriculture and tourism. Unsafe, poorly maintained roads in Uganda have contributed to a high rate of road deaths at 160 deaths per 1,000 vehicles each year, impacted on the effective transport of goods and deterred tourists from visiting the east African nation.
