Dubai taxis in Media City flash mob to promote UAE film

DUBAI // Dubai Media City was the scene for the UAE's first flash mob. But unlike flash mobs that have taken place in other countries, where people assemble peacefully and briefly in a public place, this flash mob was an assembly of Dubai taxi drivers. The taxi flash mob was organised to promote City of Life, the first feature film about the UAE and filmed entirely on location. One of the main characters in the film is Basu, a disillusioned Indian taxi driver who resembles a Bollywood actor. In order not to deprive Dubai of too many taxis on a busy Monday morning, just eight cabs took part, filled with members of the media as well as Ali F Mostafa, the film's director. Unlike other flash mobs, which are generally organised by viral emails or social networking sites, the Dubai taxi flash mob was organised with the support of the Dubai Taxi Corporation, part of the Roads and Transport Authority that supplied taxis for the film.
