The dining options on Abu Dhabi's Reem Island just get better and better. Following on from the roaring success of Leopold's of London, the cafe and brasserie that opened in Boutik Mall just before Christmas, the owners of Star Corp have added another string to their bow with the launch of the Asian fusion restaurant Smoking Doll, right next door. Hungry and curious residents have been peering through the windows of this sleek and stylish establishment for weeks now and finally the wait is over. The dolls have arrived. Smoking Doll officially opens tomorrow, but my colleagues and I were lucky enough to be invited to a private menu tasting last night. Whole grilled lobster at Smoking Doll. Courtesy Star Corp We sampled an array of dishes, from dumplings and Thai salads to a vast selection of curries, chicken satay and grilled whole lobster, followed by a selection of desserts. The alcohol-free cocktails have been created especially for the restaurant by a top mixologist and are a delight. The verdict? We all agreed the food and drinks were fantastic and that Smoking Doll is definitely going to be a major competitor on the Abu Dhabi Asian dining scene. Star Corp will also be opening branches of Smoking Doll in Nation Towers and Al Muneera in the coming months, and will be offering a takeaway/delivery service from the Boutik Mall branch in a couple of weeks. Opening hours are 11am-11pm. For reservations, call 02 677 8849 or visit www.facebook.com/smokingdoll for more information.
