Turbo
Director: David Soren
Starring: Ryan Reynolds, Paul Giamatti, Maya Rudolph
***
Replace the eager crop-duster in Planes with a snail and you get Turbo – the story of a garden snail (Reynolds) who wants to be faster than all the other molluscs and dreams of competing in the Indy 500. Thanks to some accidental exposure to nitrous oxide, Turbo gets his wish when he teams up with Tito (Michael Peña), a human with dreams as big as his. It’s very cute stuff that zips along for 96 minutes, making it perfect for very young members of the audience who aren’t quite ready for two-hour long cartoons. Parents will have fun spotting the celebrity voices but this is really for audiences still young enough to believe that if you want something enough, it can come true.
