A worker who molested a 67-year-old woman as she was entering her apartment in Bur Dubai will spend three months in jail.
Dubai Criminal Court was told that the Indian housewife was unlocking the door to her home at 7.30pm one day in May – she could not remember the date - when a Pakistani man hugged her from behind and pressed his body against hers.
"I reached for the key and the moment I put it in the hole, a man jumped at me from behind, hugged and touched me, I yelled and my dog responded to that by barking loudly scaring the man off," she told prosecutors.
The building's security guard, 41, said he saw the 26-year-old defendant in the building and asked him why he was there since he was not a tenant.
"He told me he was waiting to meet a Pakistani tenant but didn't tell me who so I told him that the only Pakistani tenants are in the second floor, then I left for prayer," the Indian guard said.
Once he returned from Al Maghrib prayer, the woman called and told him what happened.
The guard called police after checking CCTV footage and seeing that the attacker was the same man he had seen earlier.
"Police took a copy of the CCTV recording and when they arrested him in July, they called me to go to the station and identify him which I did," the guard said.
The Pakistani worker denied a charge of molestation saying he was at work in Jebel Ali at the time of the incident.
"I didn't do any of that, I am being framed but I don't know why," the defendant said.
He was convicted on Wednesday and will be deported after serving his sentence.
