Ten years jail for woman who smuggled cocaine through Dubai in bra

DUBAI // A woman caught smuggling a kilogram of cocaine in her bra was yesterday sentenced to ten years in prison and fined Dh50,000.

PJ, 30, from Thailand, was arrested at Dubai International Airport on April 8 this year after a policewoman became suspicious at the unnaturally large appearance of the traveller’s breasts.

“I asked her to take off her top but she refused...then she changed her mind and gave in and I found the drugs in her bra,” said the policewoman MA, 29, an Emirati.

The drug was hidden in three plastic bags which together weighed 1.2kg. The woman had flown in from Brazil.

At the Criminal Court she confessed to a charge of smuggling drugs. She will be deported after serving her jail term.

The verdict remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
