DUBAI// A man was stabbed to death by his sister’s boyfriend as he tried to calm a dispute between them.
Dubai Criminal Court was told the Emirati victim, whose age was not in records, disapproved of the relationship between his sister and a man from their neighbourhood in Al Quoz.
On March 18 last year the boyfriend, 27, who holds a Comoros Islands passport, along with a 22-year-old compatriot and an Emirati friend aged 19 headed to the victim’s house to assault him but were chased off by his mother.
The woman followed the three men to the boyfriend’s house and began insulting them, forcing the men to call the victim to come and take his mother home.
When he arrived, the victim calmed the situation by promising his mother, and the mother of his sister’s boyfriend, that their problem would be resolved. He then kissed the two women on their foreheads.
The two men then took a walk together to the old cemetery in Al Quoz where the boyfriend pushed the Emirati to the ground before sitting on top of him and stabbing him repeatedly.
An Emirati police lieutenant told the court the boyfriend’s two friends saw the attack and joined in.
“The knives used in the assault were stolen from a nearby supermarket,” said the officer, adding that the three men then fled in a car.
They later called two friends who helped them hide the car because its seats were stained with blood.
“They also buried the knives and burnt their clothes they were wearing,” said the officer.
The victim was taken to Rashid Hospital where he died in surgery.
He had been stabbed seven times, including three times in the heart.
In court the boyfriend, his compatriot and their Emirati friend, were charged with premeditated murder.
Two Emiratis, both aged 27, are also charged with knowing about the crime, failing to report it to police, and aiding the defendants by burning their clothes, hiding their car, and burying the knives.
None of the defendants were present in court to enter pleas.
The next hearing will be on September 27.
