SHARJAH // A diabetes awareness programme for Sharjah schoolchildren started this week and will include lectures and workshops.

The Sugar, Sweet and Bitter programme, which runs until February 6, is being offered by the Friends for Diabetes Association, which falls under the Sharjah Supreme Council for Family Affairs health education department.

The initiative is being held in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Sharjah Education Council, Al Qasimi Hospital and University of Sharjah, reported Wam, the state news agency.

The association has focused efforts on schoolchildren through campaigns taking place in schools during morning assemblies and gym classes, as well as educational plays to promote healthy lifestyles and protect children from diabetes, said Khawla Al Hajj, head of the association.
