Abu Dhabi extended the temporary closure of several categories of public venue until further notice. They had previously been required to shut until April 5.

The Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development said the decision affected commercial centres, shopping malls, cinemas and arcades.

The suspension of valet parking services, closure of fitness and bodybuilding halls and the banning of shisha in restaurants and cafes will also remain in place.

Authorities are to carry out inspections to ensure the orders are being complied with and to monitor any breaches.

The department's Chairman Mohammed Ali Al Shorafa said the decision would be implemented alongside the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority and the Ministry of Health and Prevention.

Officials made the decision to protect the safety and security of people in Abu Dhabi.
