DUBAI // Lamcy Plaza had to be cleared of shoppers on Friday morning after a fire broke out.
There were no reported injuries but fire crews from three stations were called to the scene at Oud Maitha.
“The mall was evacuated to ensure the safety of shoppers and ease firefighting operations,” said a civil defence spokesman.
“All the cars in the parking area of Lamcy Plaza were removed.
“The fire broke out in fans on the roof of the mall,” he said.
Maj Gen Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, commander-in-chief of Dubai Police, arrived at the scene shortly after the blaze began, reportedly around 11am.
“The fire started at the rooftop of Lamcy Plaza and spread to other parts of the shopping centre,” he said.
“An investigation will be opened to identify the causes of the fire and evaluate financial losses,” Maj Gen Al Marri said.
Dubai Civil Defence said firefighters managed to get the blaze under control at 11.42am.
