DUBAI // Dubai Police's rescue division has cautioned parents about the dangers of leaving children unattended in their cars after freeing 189 youngsters locked in vehicles in the first half of 2010. "We have realised that in the latest period, with the increase of temperatures, parents tend to forget their children in cars and we would like to warn the public about such actions," Capt Abdullah Beshoa, the head of the Dubai Police rescue division, said yesterday. "Some of the cases involved children locked in cars without air conditioning."
Many parents tended to feel that it was all right to leave their children in their vehicles when making brief stops, in some cases leaving them locked inside, Capt Beshoa said. No statistics on any deaths in such cases were released. The division conducted more than 8,200 operations in the first half of this year, varying from rescues related to traffic accidents to freeing people stuck in lifts. More than 50 of the 180 accident-related rescues were made in Bur Dubai, 37 in Jebel Ali, 35 in Rashidiya, 28 in Al Qusais and 15 in Al Muraqabat.
