ABU DHABI // An attempt to smuggle more than 13 million Saudi Riyals (Dh12.7m) across the Al Ghuwaifat Border has been foiled by Abu Dhabi customs inspectors.

An inspector found the money hidden in back door cavities and under the back seat of a 39-year-old African man's car during a routine inspection.

According to the UAE Anti-Money Laundering Law (AML) of 2002, concealment and failure to disclose the possession of more than Dh100,00 at a border is a criminal offence.

Two men have been taken into custody and will be referred to prosecution.
