DUBAI // A woman was fined Dh1,000 for assaulting her ex-fiancee and crashing into his Jaguar, a Dubai court said this morning.
The 34-year-old woman, LO, from Tunisia, confronted her 37-year-old Lebanese fiancee, FS, while he was heading to work on June 25, 2010, then crashed her car into his vehicle as he tried to avoid her, the Dubai Court of Misdemeanours ruled.
LO, a bank representative, testified that she met FS five years ago, and they became engaged. Later, however, she discovered that he was having relationships with other women. They ended the relationship about three years ago.
Recently, she said, she asked to meet with him in order to discuss their problems. They met at a hotel on the morning of the incident, but when she returned from a trip to the bathroom, he had left with her mobile phone, she testified.
LO called FS that afternoon, asking him to return her phone. But when they met again for the exchange, he threatened to have her deported, she said.
"Our cars were facing each other in a small road and when he was reversing in order to let me pass, he suddenly drove forward towards me and I couldn't avoid him," she said in records.
FS suffered minor injuries to his neck and back, while his Jaguar's front end was damaged.
Prosecutors charged her with assault and intentionally damaging another's property. She denied both charges when she first appeared in court in January and said she did not mean to hit his car.
FS, who owns a restaurant and a cafe, said LO had come to his restaurant several times and threatened to hurt him.
One of his employees, MA, testified that at one occasion, LO came to the restaurant and said to her: "I will ruin him. You will hear his bad news soon. Either way, I have lost."
FS said he was treated at Rashid Hospital.
