Minnesota Timberwolves point guard and Spain international Ricky Rubio will be part of a Dubai basketball camp running from August 22-28 at Dubai Sports World.
Rubio, highly regarded for his creative and daring playmaking, will be joined by former Sacramento Kings star Peja Stojakovic, a Croatian hoops legend who played 13 seasons in the NBA and was a three-time all-star.
The camps. run in conjunction with the BasicBall academy, will feature Fiba certified coaches and skill-specific training sessions with the pair. Stojakovic, who finished his career 10th on the NBA’s all-time leading three-point shooting list, will work with attendants on shooting. Rubio, who was fourth in the NBA in assists per game two seasons ago before enduring an injury-hit 2014/15, will teach passing and dribbling skills.
Said Stojakovic in a press release: “I know basketball is very popular in the UAE so I’m looking forward to seeing what talent is out there.
“I hold the game very close to my heart and I hope I can pass some of the skills and knowledge I learnt during my career.”
Stojakovic last played in the NBA in 2011, when he joined the Dallas Mavericks midway through the season and served a role in their championship-winning side.
Rubio played 22 games last year, averaging 11.8 points, 8.8 assists and 2.0 steals per game.
