I write to you in reference to Claire Corkery's article Greta Thunberg: climate activist receives 'unimaginable amounts' of abuse (July 23).

Greta Thunberg has become a well-known figure at a very young age, and with notoriety comes a heavy price.

If you are going to put yourself out there in the world, even if it is to defend the right cause, you have to be prepared for the barbs that are sure to come your way.

Iran provocations did not disrupt oil market prices

I write to you in reference to your article Iran vows to secure Strait of Hormuz as four states back European naval mission (July 24).

Despite escalating tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, the oil market appears to be holding steady. We are not witnessing large price swings, as one would have expected.

If tensions had risen five or six years ago, it would have been a totally different story.

I think this means there is a sufficient amount of oil on the market and unless there’s a significant disruption in supply, prices will remain around $60.

The US is less dependant on foreign oil imports from the Middle East as production and export have reached new heights. Today most of the oil flowing through the strait of Hormuz is going to Asia, predominantly China.

It is unbelievable that Iran should vow to protect shipping in the strait of Hormuz, even as it continues to jeopardise maritime safety in this strategic waterway. What a joke.

I remember Amy Winehouse’s tragic performance in Dubai

I write to you in reference to Saeed Saeed's article Remembering Amy Winehouse's Dubai show, her tragic penultimate performance: 'my heart went out for her' (July 23).

I remember that concert, Amy Winehouse was a mess. Our hearts did go out to her. The concert should have been stopped before it started, the people around her should have protected her.
