American-based fashion designer, Misha Nonoo married oil heir Michael Hess in a lavish ceremony at Villa Aurelia in Rome this weekend. The Daily Mail reported that one friend of the designer described the big day as "the greatest spectacle Rome has seen since the return of Caesar".

The guest list reads like a who's who of young British royals, celebrities and American heirs. See who attended the big day below ...

For starters, who is Misha Nonoo?

Before we get onto the guest list, let's discuss Misha Nonoo. The 33-year-old newlywed is a British fashion designer, close friend of Meghan Markle's and was the first person to run an Instagram runway show, back in 2015.

Nonoo was born in Bahrain to an Iraqi father and an English mother. From aged 11, she lived in Surrey, an English county close to London.

Nonoo and Markle have been friends since meeting at a lunch in Miami, and it is thought that Nonoo introduced the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to each other in 2016. They have since worked together to create the duchess's Smart Set capsule wardrobe for the charity, Smart Works. The pair went on holiday to Spain together in 2016.

"We were seated next to one another at a lunch, and we got along like a house on fire," Nonoo told the Evening Standard of the actress-turned-royal in 2017. "She has the most remarkable and generous spirit. I aspire to be as philanthropic as she is, and to have as much of an impact as her."

“I love her to death,” Nonoo added. “She is the coolest girl in the world.”

Now, for the guest list:

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

It makes total sense that "coolest girl in the world", the Duchess of Sussex, would be at her good friend's wedding and that her husband, Prince Harry, would tag along.

But the flame-haired royal has his own history with Nonoo: before marrying Hess, Nonoo was married to Alexander Gilkes, a friend of Prince Harry's. Nonoo married online auction house Paddle8 founder Gilkes in 2012, but they separated in 2016.

The royals attended the Italian wedding before leaving for their autumn tour of Southern Africa on Monday, September 22.

Princess Eugenie

Princess Eugenie was beyond your standard guest: she arrived at the venue with the bride, and so it is thought she is a member of the bridal party.

The royal wore a black dress for the black tie occasion, while Nonoo sported a paired-back white wedding dress.

Another royal at the event, Princess Beatrice arrived with Poppy Jamie, a close friend of Nonoo's and model Suki Waterhouse. It has been speculated that, along with music mogul David Geffen, the princess played a part in setting Nonoo and Hess up.

Karlie Kloss

Model Karlie Kloss is married to Joshua Kushner, Michael Hess' best friend and brother to Jared. It is thought that Joshua was Hess' best man at the nuptials.

Ivanka Trump, daughter of President Donald Trump, arrived at the wedding with her husband, Jared Kushner, who is the older brother of Joshua Kushner and also friends with the groom.

Katy Perry

Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom are becoming regulars at society weddings, fresh from Ellie Goulding and Caspar Jopling's big day on Saturday, August 31. It is thought that Perry knows Nonoo through mutual friend, Jamie Mizrahi.

Mizrahi is stylist who often works with Perry, and is married to Nico Mizrahi, a friend of Hess'.

James Corden

The link between TV personality Corden and the couple is not immediately clear, but he is certainly in with the young royals, having been friends with Prince Harry "for years", and a guest at the royal's May 2018 wedding to the Duchess of Cambridge.

Naturally, Nonoo and Hess were at the duke and duchess' big day, so perhaps they all met there.  Corden arrived at the Italian ceremony with wife, Julia Carey.

Conflict, drought, famine

Estimates of the number of deaths caused by the famine range from 400,000 to 1 million, according to a document prepared for the UK House of Lords in 2024.
It has been claimed that the policies of the Ethiopian government, which took control after deposing Emperor Haile Selassie in a military-led revolution in 1974, contributed to the scale of the famine.
Dr Miriam Bradley, senior lecturer in humanitarian studies at the University of Manchester, has argued that, by the early 1980s, “several government policies combined to cause, rather than prevent, a famine which lasted from 1983 to 1985. Mengistu’s government imposed Stalinist-model agricultural policies involving forced collectivisation and villagisation [relocation of communities into planned villages].
The West became aware of the catastrophe through a series of BBC News reports by journalist Michael Buerk in October 1984 describing a “biblical famine” and containing graphic images of thousands of people, including children, facing starvation.

Band Aid

Bob Geldof, singer with the Irish rock group The Boomtown Rats, formed Band Aid in response to the horrific images shown in the news broadcasts.
With Midge Ure of the band Ultravox, he wrote the hit charity single Do They Know it’s Christmas in December 1984, featuring a string of high-profile musicians.
Following the single’s success, the idea to stage a rock concert evolved.
Live Aid was a series of simultaneous concerts that took place at Wembley Stadium in London, John F Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, the US, and at various other venues across the world.
The combined event was broadcast to an estimated worldwide audience of 1.5 billion.
