Just two days before Christmas, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's family Christmas card has been shared with the world.

The image has been illustrated, based on a photo by Meghan Markle's mother, Doria Ragland, and shows the couple with their son, Archie, 1, outside a playhouse in the garden of their Montecito, California home.

Also featured in the images are their two dogs – the black labrador, Pula, and rescue beagle, Guy.

The image was shared by Mayhew, the British animal welfare organisation that the duchess is a patron of.

“This year we, as a family, have made donations to several charities with you in mind,” the duchess has written in the card, according to the organisation.

“From a local California organisation that helps families transition out of homelessness, to two of our UK patronages: one that supports animal and community welfare, and the other, a memorial fund for a cherished friend that helps to educate children and fight poverty in Uganda, we have honoured their work on behalf of all of us.”

A spokesperson for the family added: "The original photo of the family was taken at their home earlier this month by the duchess's mother. The small Christmas tree, including the home-made ornaments and other decorations, was selected by Archie, and the tree will be replanted after the holidays."

Earlier this month, Prince Harry's brother, Prince William, shared his official family Christmas card, along with his wife, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, and their three children, George, 7, Charlotte, 5, and Louis, 2.

The image shows the couple sat with their children on bales of hay in front of stacked firewood. The photo was taken in the autumn at their Norfolk home, Anmer Hall, by Matt Porteous.

Prince George and Princess Charlotte are both happily smiling for the photo, while their younger brother, Prince Louis is positively beaming.

The royal brothers' father, Prince Charles, has also released his chosen 2020 Christmas card image, with wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.

The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall’s Christmas card might not be very festive, but it is certainly bright and cheerful. Taken in what looks to be the height of summer, with the pair surrounded by stunning flowers, the image was captured in the garden of Birkhall, Scotland.

Birkhall is the private residence of the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall. It’s also the former home of Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother, on the Balmoral estate on Royal Deeside, who described it as a “little big house”.
