Besides hosting exciting musical performances – Charice, Jason Derulo, Juicy J, Rita Ora and Hard Kaur – the Yasalam festival has an interactive Urban Art Zone this year, so head down to the Abu Dhabi Corniche and get creative.
Art on-site
It’ll be hard to ignore the 40-foot shipping container smack in the middle of the Corniche’s West Plaza, which will serve as a wall for local graffiti artists to practise their skills during the 11-day festival that begins on Thursday, November 13.
The Dubai-based artist and sociologist Fatima Mohiuddin and her team will turn a scrapped sports car into an artwork over the course of the festival. Visitors can also sign up for workshops led by various artists.
Sitting pretty
Visitors can unwind in the art zone lounge that will be filled with upcycled furniture collected by Take My Junk and painted by local artists – catch the UK-based set designer Patrick Seaman giving old chairs and tables funky makeovers.
Crafty by the sea
Put on some sunscreen and head to the beach, which will feature three live craft stations that will keep the entire family engrossed. Snapback to Future will tap into the art of customising baseball caps. Or step into the Trick My Tote workshop to decorate and personalise tote bags. At Paint a Vinyl Toy booth, kids can choose a robot, bear or car to paint and decorate.
• The Urban Art Zone is at West Plaza, Abu Dhabi Corniche, from Thursday, November 13, until November 23. For more information, visit www.yasalam.ae
