In a recent interview with the Hindustan Times, Akshay Kumar condemned the December 5 rape of a finance executive in New Delhi, and said he is concerned about "bringing up his daughter in such an environment".
"We need to put fear in men, instead of women walking around in fear every day. There is no excuse not to have a strict punishment for such inhumane action," said the Bollywood actor, who was recently in Abu Dhabi to shoot for his new thriller Baby, out early next year.
“I thought I was protective of my daughter before, but there’s nothing that prepares you, as a parent, for the constant fear about your daughter’s safety and happiness,” said Kumar. “I know it’s my duty, as a father, to look after her, but I also expect my country’s government to protect her.”
Earlier this year, Kumar set up a Martial Arts Training Institute for women in Mumbai, which the actor says “offers free self-defence classes for women to counter the menace of men attacking them”.
